2013 is here….three years after we make contact but two years before Jaws 19, and convention season is nigh. It’s a time for excitement, speculation, and multiple refreshes per day to see who has been added to the guest list.
This years fourth annual C2E2 or Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, will take place at the enormous McCormick Place in downtown Chicago from April 26-28, 2013.
Having been to the three previous C2E2’s, this is a few weeks later than the prior conventions, which I see as being a good thing for a few reasons. First off, it’s Chicago, and I’m sure this guy appreciates cosplaying in warmer temperatures.
Also, hopefully having the timeframe closer to the start of the summer movie season will encourage Hollywood to get some bigger A-list stars and panels out to Downtown Chicago for this event.
Comic purists who don’t like what San Diego Comic-Con has become might not like the idea of Hollywood invading other conventions, but I think there’s room for growth in this area for C2E2. Perhaps moving the date back a few weeks is a step in the right direction towards this happening.
Confirmed media guests include Chandler Riggs of The Walking Dead, and Kevin Smith, who will surely do a Q&A and podcast during the festivities. The only comic creators listed thus far are Ethan Van Sciver and J.Michael Straczynski, but the full attendee list will likely be revealed in droves over the next few months.
With Wondercon, San Diego Comic-Con, New York Comic-Con, and C2E2, not to mention the many Wizard World and local cons to look forward to, 2013 should be another great convention year. Whether you want to shake the hand of the Honky Tonk Man, pick-up a Mego Greatest American Hero action figure or look through long boxes for New Mutants #87, there will be plenty of opportunities for this and more when convention season begins with C2E2 in April, 2013.
